Tarpons Re-Sign Melton, Gavitt, and Add Workman
LAKELAND, FL - Lakeland has re-signed another arena football veteran for the 2019 season in defensive lineman Xavier Melton.
Melton is a graduate of George Jenkins High School who is now a deputy with the Polk County Sheriff's Office.
A three-star prospect, he had 96 tackles, including 12 for loss and seven sacks, his senior season at George Jenkins. He originally signed to play college ball at Purdue before transferring to Butler Community College in Kansas where he recorded 6.5 sacks his sophomore season. His final two years were spent at Troy State where he played for the Trojans and earned a bachelor's degree in psychology. He recorded 25 tackles, 8 solo, and 3 sacks his first year with the Trojans.
Melton then joined the Oakland Raiders in the NFL for two season. After Oakland, Melton played for the Tampa Bay Storm for two season before joining the Tarpons last season.
The Tarpons also re-signed 6'8" 340 lb. offensive lineman Sean Gavitt from Methodist, and 5'10" 175 lb. wide receiver/defensive back Rahmel Workman from Shaw University.
