Wallace throws for six, Burden gets pick six, as Tarpons flatten Peach State Cats, 52-6

LAKELAND – There were no spectacular over-the-boards catches on this evening, but it hardly mattered as the Florida Tarpons rolled to their second straight win of the 2018 season by downing the Peach State Cats, 52-6, at the RP Funding Center Saturday Night.

John Banks had his second-straight three-touchdown game, and George Jenkins grad Reggie Ellis had two touchdown catches after his touchdown catch last week went viral in a win over the Austin Wild. The grab has almost 70,000 views alone on the NFL on CBS facebook page, which picked up the amazing, tumbling-over-the-boards play..

Tarpons quarterback Chris Wallace threw for six touchdowns, including his first one of the game, a 1-yarder to Keith Deveaux with 10 minutes to play in the opening frame. In all five of the Tarpons games this year, they have scored first, despite a record now of 2-3..

Randall Burden had his second pick six of the year on the final play of the game, kicker John Lunsford added a field goal, and Freddy Frazier tackled Peach State quarterback Kyle Smith in the endzone for a two-point safety to round out the scoring. Smith's scamper of 17-yards in the first quarter brought the Cats (0-4) to within 7-6 with more than seven minutes left in the first quarter, but the Tarpons defense pitched a shutout the rest of the way.

The defensive effort was aided by four interceptions, including two by Maurice Francois.

The Tarpons will close out the season with two road games and one more at home. Next Saturday, they travel to Macon to take on the Georgia Doom, and will return home to the face the Upstate Dragons on Saturday, May 26. In honor of Memorial Day, all active and retired military, along with first responders from Central Florida, will be admitted free for the 7:05 start. For tickets, visit the RP Funding Center website, or call 834-8100. The finale will also be broadcast live on the Tarpons YouTube channel.
