Tarpons will bring 2018 season to close at home May 26 vs. Upstate Dragons

LAKELAND – Because of  a number of unexpected league schedule changes in recent weeks, the Florida Tarpons will close out their 2018 campaign with one home game on Saturday of Memorial Day weekend against the Upstate Dragons.

The Georgia Doom, who the Tarpons were slated to play in Macon this weekend, will now face the Southern Steam.

Florida, in its seventh season of professional arena football, will look to climb all the way back to the .500 level on May 26, after starting the season with road and home losses to the the Atlanta Havoc and a home defeat against Richmond.

“Although it's not the kind of season Tarpons fans, and the organization as a whole, have come to expect, we've faced the challenges and still have a chance to finish the season at .500. I'm proud of the effort the last few weeks when we found ourselves in a position we're not accustomed to,” Coach Michael Taylor said.

The Tarpons, 2-3 overall but winner of their last two straight, have played in five league championship games in their first six seasons, winning two. Atlanta is the league's only undefeated team at 8-0 while Richmond, who Florida lost to in last year's league championship game, is 7-1.

“We can promise fans and supporters that there are much bigger and brighter things in regards to the Tarpons next year,” Taylor added. “The final three games of this season will serve as a great building block to 2019, when the Tarpons will bring the kind of professional football back that the team and our fans will be proud of. We can't wait to get started on next year, and all the exciting things we know everyone will be rewarded with.”

The season-finale kicks off at 7 p.m. On May 26. In honor of Memorial Day, all active and retired military along with all first responders will receive free admission. Tickets are available by calling the RP Funding Center box office at 834-8111, or online at the RP Funding Center website. The game will also be broadcast live on the Tarpons own YouTube channel.
